Bears Agree On $30 Million Two Year Extension With Cutler
The NFL's Chicago Bears have locked up the services of quarterback Jay Cutler through the 2013 NFL season by agreeing to give him a two year $30 million contract extension. Although the exact specifics of the deal have yet to be revealed, sources familiar with the negotiations have said that the deal includes approximately $20 million in guaranteed money and roughly $30 million in new money. Cutler was acquired from Denver in the offseason for Kyle Orton, two first round, and one third round draft pick. Since his arrival, Cutler has proven that he has the ability to be a franchise quarterback.
Although he started out a bit shaky in the opening game of the season against the Green bay Packers in which he threw 4 interceptions, he has played up to his billing ever since. Cutler has completed 110 of 172 passes for 1,201 yards, and he has passed for 10 touchdowns while throwing 7 interceptions. He has guided the Bears to a 3-2 record in which he directed two back to back come from behind victories over the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Seattle Seahawks. He has compiled a 64.0 completion percentage with a 240.2 passing yards per game average; but over the last 4 games has completed 70 percent of his passes and thrown 9 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions. He now has thrown for 10,225 yards, 64 touchdowns, 44 interceptions, and completed 872 of 1,392 passes in just 4 seasons in the NFL. He is also on pace to break all of the single season passing records in Chicago Bears history this season. The Bears are a sure bet to be a much more dangerous team offensively with Cutler at quarterback, and the betting line odds of the Bears having a successful season are now far greater than they were prior to Cutler's arrival. It seems like all has worked out well for both the Chicago Bears and for Jay Cutler.
