Kansas Lucks Out On Morningstar's Sentence

Jayhawks' Guard Brady Morningstar Gets Lenient Treatment For DUI

The Kansas Jayhawks received great news on Thursday when they were notified that guard Brady Morningstar would not be prosecuted on drunk driving charges as long as he remains out of trouble for the next year. Morningstar was originally arrested on October 3rd for suspicion of drunk driving when he was pulled over for speeding, and for failing to keep his vehicle in his own lane. Although the court records indicated that the 23 year old junior guard had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time of the arrest, the Douglas County prosecutors agreed to fine him just $500 and drop the DUI, speeding, and illegal lane change charges under the condition that Morningstar did not have any further legal problems over the next 12 months. In light of the news, the Jayhawks basketball program suspended Morningstar from playing in any games during the first semester of the year.

There is really not a whole lot one can say about this situation other than the obvious which is: what a freaking joke!! I wonder what the reason might have been for letting Morningstar off so easy. I also wonder what the punishment for incidents of a similar nature are for the average citizen in Douglas County. Actually, I don't have to wonder at all on either of these points, as the answers are blatantly obvious. It is a sure bet that Morningstar got off because he was a Kansas basketball player, and the betting odds of the normal citizen receiving the same preferential leniency under the same circumstances are off the charts. You or I would be paying big bucks to a lawyer in hopes of being able to make a deal to keep us out of jail, and to keep our drivers license if that were at all possible. However, I must commend Kansas university for its feeble effort at attempting to show their lack of tolerance for Morningstar's behavior by suspending him for the first semester; which happens to almost already be over, and the NCAA basketball season has yet to even begin. Wow, the entire situation is an insult to my intelligence and quite frankly makes me want to puke. WHAT A JOKE!!
