Los Angeles Signs Goalie and Defenseman to 3 Years Contract Extensions
The NHL's Los Angeles Kings signed both goalie Jonathan Quick, and defenseman Davis Drewiske to three year extensions on Friday with the intent of locking up the two significant contributors that have been instrumental in the Kings solid start of the NHL season. The exact terms of either deal were not disclosed but the Kings front office indicated to the media that they were extremely pleased with the move to solidify both players' presence on the team for the next several seasons.
The signing of both Quick and Drewiske will definitely help the betting odds of the Kings being able to legitimately compete for the Pacific division crown; and as a result of the deal, the Kings are a good bet to make an impressive impact in the Stanley Cup playoffs as well. Since taking over the starting goalie position midway through last season, Quick has assured himself the top spot again this season by starting 9 of the first 10 games of the season in the net. During that time the Kings have gone 6-3 and Quick has had a 3.01 goals against average with an .893 save percentage in those games. Drewiske has also started out the season just as well,as he has a plus-6 rating while scoring 3 points and blocking 15 shots in the first 10 games he has been on the ice. He has also been an extremely dependable player on the Kings' blue line so far this season. With so many teams hampered by injuries in then early part of the season, the Kings are in a position to really make a move in the Pacific division, especially with the futures of Quick and Drewiske recently being secured.
