MLB's Dodgers Fire Ceo One Day After Playoff Elimination

Jamie McCourt Fired by Her Estranged Husband

MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt was fired on Thursday just one day after the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Philadelphia Phillies. The most peculiar part of her termination isn't the fact that it may have been justifiable because it was the second straight season that the Dodgers were knocked out of the NLCS by the Phillies; but by the fact that she was fired by her husband, Dodgers' owner Frank McCourt just one week after the couple announced that they were separating after 30 years of marriage. Jamie McCourt's attorney, Dennis Wasser, told the media that the news came as a shock to the co-owner of the team who intends to address the termination and all other issues in the courts. Frank McCourt's attorney, Marshall Grossman, declined to comment citing that it is the team's policy to never address matters of a personal nature.

Frank McCourt promoted his wife to chief executive officer of the team after he gained ownership of the franchise in 2004 making her the highest ranking woman in Major League Baseball. She originally began as the team's vice chairman in 2004, and then was later named as the team's president in 2005. Although there are no confirmations that the couple is intending to divorce, the betting line odds that the separation played a significant role in her dismissal are extremely high. However, it is a pretty good baseball bet that the team will be unaffected by the outcome of McCourt's dismissal, as her role in the day to operations of the franchise were more likely to be that of a window dressing than anything else. Dodgers' manager Joe Torre also seems to think that her termination is irrelevant as he has said that he didn't think that the separation of the couple would affect the team in any way.
