Wolverines Center David Molk Tears Ligament in Knee Against Penn State
Michigan Wolverines starting center David Molk has been declared as finished for the 2009 NCAA football season due to a torn ligament in his right knee which occurred in Saturday's loss to Penn State. Coach Rich Rodriguez announced Monday that Polk will not participate in any spring drills either, as the the injury will more than likely take several months to heal. Molk had just returned to the starting lineup against Penn State after missing the previous four games because of a broken foot.
This is a huge loss to the Wolverines at this stage in the season. Molk, a redshirt sophomore, started every game for Michigan last season and is considered to be Michigan's best offensive lineman. The offense can ill afford to lose his services as the Wolverines are in a must win situation this weekend against Illinois. After losing their last three consecutive conference games, the betting odds of Michigan being eligible for a bowl appearance if they lose to Illinois on Saturday will drop significantly. Being in a must win situation without the services of their best offensive lineman isn't exactly the best scenario for the Wolverines, but they do have the luxury of playing a very weak Illinois football team which should enable them to successfully survive in Molk's absence.
