NFL's Dolphins Lose Starting Cornerback To Knee Injury

Miami's Will Allen Out For Season With Torn ACL

The NFL's Miami Dolphins suffered two major losses on Sunday when they faced the New Orleans Saints. First, the Dolphins lost the game after jumping out to a 28-3 lead, and then they lost starting cornerback Will Allen for the rest of the season due to a knee injury he suffered during the third quarter of the game. The injury tore the ACL in his left knee which will require surgery that will ultimately restrict him from any action for the remainder of the NFL football season. Allen has only missed one game since joining the Dolphins in 2006, and prior to being injured on Sunday, he also led the team in interceptions.with two.

The loss of Allen will hurt the Dolphins significantly. The Dolphins are already depleted in the cornerback position and will need to replace Allen with rookie first round draft pick Vontae Davis. This will result in the Miami defense having to start two rookies at the corners. The Dolphins have allowed 73 points in the last two games alone, and a big part of the problem has been in the secondary. The team currently ranks last in the NFL in yards per completion and the betting line odds of that statistic getting even worse with the absence of Allen are extremely high. It is a pretty good football bet that teams who oppose the Dolphins will exploit the inexperienced cornerbacks even further in the future and put the Dolphins and their defense in a very weak position for quite some time to come.
