Cleveland Guard Delonte West Faces Domestic Violence Accusations Filed By His Wife
The Cleveland Cavaliers' guard Delonte West is being investigated over claims of domestic violence that his wife filed in a report with the Cleveland police on Sunday. Kimberly West told police that her husband Delonte had accused her of cheating on him, and that he grabbed her and took her wedding ring and purse during an argument the couple had at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport where Kimberly was waiting for a flight to visit her father in New Jersey. Police told the media on Monday that they were investigating the claims, and that so far no charges have been filed against Delonte. Cavs' coach Mike Brown informed the media that they were aware of the situation and were monitoring it closely, but no decision has been made yet regarding West's playing status.
The absence of West is not likely to hurt the Cavs at this stage in the season, especially considering the fact that he has yet to see any action during the preseason games thus far. In fact, losing the presence of West may actually have a positive impact on the team as he has added nothing to the team recently except for distractions. West, who has been treated for bipolar disorder in the past, has left the team's training camp twice for personal reasons, and he is also facing misdemeanor weapons possession charges as a result of September arrest in Maryland. It appears that West seems to be more trouble than he is worth and the betting odds of the behavioral issues and distractions that he brings to the team continuing are pretty high. The Cavs would more than likely be better off without him.
