Tailback Robinson and Guard Richardson Gone For Season From Injuries
The Iowa Hawkeyes received very bad news Wednesday when it was confirmed that starting tailback Adam Robinson and starting guard Dace Richardson would both miss the rest of the season due to injuries that they suffered in Saturday night's game against the Michigan State Spartans. Freshman tailback Adam Robinson had rolled his ankle late in the game and his future status was unclear until the results of the tests revealed he had a fracture that would sideline him for the rest of the season. He is the Hawkeyes leading rusher with 629 yards so far this season, and he had a career high 109 rushing yards in the game against the Spartans. Perhaps just as troubling news is that the guard who was partially responsible for opening the holes for Robinson was also injured on Saturday and he will also be out for the rest of the season.
This is horrible news for the Hawkeyes at this stage in the season. The no. 7 ranked Hawkeyes are undefeated and in sole possession of the lead in the Big Ten standings. The have the ability to control their own destiny if they can continue to play at the level they have been able to do so thus far this season. The biggest problem that they face now is that they were already an extremely challenged team offensively. The loss of their top running back and top offensive lineman can only hurt an already marginal offensive unit. The sportsbooks' betting odds of the Hawkeyes being able to hold on to the Big Ten title and remain undefeated without the services of Robinson and Richardson have declined significantly. The only good news for Iowa is that they play Indiana and Northwestern in their next two games, and they are still a good bet to rack up two more wins in their quest for the championship. How the rest of the season unfolds for the Hawkeyes remains to be seen, but the betting odds are certainly stacked against with their recently decimated offensive unit.
