Stanford Loses Green Indefinitely

Cardinals Suspend Sophomore Guard For Violating Team Rules

The Stanford Cardinals coach Johnny Dawkins suspended sophomore guard Jeremy Green indefinitely for violating team rules and policies. The school made the announcement on Wednesday stating that the suspension would begin immediately and that there was yet to be a timetable for his return. Neither the school spokesperson nor Johnny Dawkins provided the exact nature of the rules violations that Green committed.

The move to suspend Green will have a huge negative impact on the Cardinals during his absence. Green made the PAC 10 All-Freshman Team last season and was regarded as a promising underclassman. He played in 34 games last season in which he averaged 6.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game and at the same time was a 45.6 percent shooter from 3-point range. He also continued to improve significantly as the season progressed scoring 7.4 points per game, and shooting 52.1 percent from he floor overall while shooting 50 percent from 3-point range in the final 10 games of the season. With the loss of top recruit Andy Brown to a season ending knee injury on just the second day of practice, the basketball betting line odds on Stanford being a competitive force in the PAC 10 with the additional absence of Green have taken a nose dive. Green is a quality player that was a very good bet to continue improving where he left off last year and become a focal point of the Cardinal's team. Dawkins may find that things won't be so easy for the team until they get Green back on the court, especially now with Brown gone for the season. It is a good thing for him that he used he word indefinitely, as the word indefinitely opens up the possibility of Green's return being as soon as tomorrow.
