Toronto Exercises Fourth Year Option On Italian Guard
The NBA's Toronto Raptors have decided to keep Italian Guard Marco Belinelli for another season by exercising the fourth year option on his contract just two days before the contracts deadline. The deal that was made on Thursday will now guarantee that Belinelli will remain a Toronto Raptor through the 2010-2011 NBA season. Belinelli was originally chosen as the 18th overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft, and he was acquired in an off season trade with the Golden State Warriors.
The move by Toronto could prove to have a positive impact on the franchise. The 23 year old guard has show some signs of potential in his first few seasons in the NBA and has plenty of time to get better under the proper circumstances. Belinelli has already shown that he could potentially help the Raptors by scoring 10 points in just 19 minutes of action in the season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. If nothing else, he is a sure bet to at least add some depth and scoring capabilities to the Raptor' bench which is something that they are in dire need of. Toronto is certainly not the sportsbooks' betting line favorite to win their division, but they have made some moves that could potentially put them on the right track to becoming a consistently competitive team in the NBA.
