Saint Louis Loses Eckerle For Entire NCAA Basketball Season

Guard Paul Eckerle Out For Season With Knee Injury

The Saint Louis Bilikens will be left without one upperclassman on their basketball team this season after junior guard Paul Eckerle will have to miss the entire season as a result of a knee injury. Eckerle had surgery on his knee in August in hopes of being able to return to the team at full strength this season, but coach Rick Majerus told the media on Thursday that Eckerle would not be able to recover in time to play at all this season. Eckerle played in 30 games last season and although he only averaged 1.6 points per game, he was the only upperclassman, as well as the only player with real playing experience on the Bilikens roster this year.

The loss of Eckerle will likely not affect the betting line odds of the Bilikens having a very successful season this year. Saint Louis will be comprised of four sophomores, a redshirt freshman, and six true freshman for Rick Majerus to try and make a competitive basketball team out of. Although Majerus has proven to be quite a respectable coach in the past, the betting odds of him being able to duplicate the 18-14 record he guided the Bilikens to last season is astronomical. This will be his third season as head coach at Saint Louis and from the looks of things right now, it may be the longest season of his illustrious coaching career.
