NBA's Bobcats Pick Up Ajinca's Option

Charlotte Signs Center to 2010-11 Contract Option Before Deadline

The NBA's Charlotte Bobcats have decided to pick up the third year contract option on center Alexis Ajinca that would pay him a reported $1.22 million for the 2010-2011 NBA season. After contemplating Ajinca's future and how he fit in to the Bobcats' rotation, the team announced Thursday just two days before the deadline that they would pick up the option despite the uncertainty they felt about Ajinca's effort with the club. The 7' 0" French native was the 20th overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft, but he has been criticised by coach Larry Brown for his sub-par play and lack of effort since becoming a member of the Bobcats. Last season, Ajinca played in only 31 games and manged to average just 2.3 points per game which was far less than what the franchise had anticipated his contribution would be.

The move to pick up Ajinca's contract is certainly not going to aid in the betting odds of the franchise becoming a legitimate playoff contender. So far this season, Ajinca played only 10 minutes and scored only 4 points in the Charlotte's opening game of the season. The Bobcats have way bigger problems that the addition of Ajinca can solve as they only managed to score 59 points in the 92-59 trouncing they received from the Celtics to open the regular season. The Bobcats need to acquire some true quality NBA players very quickly or they will be an excellent bet to be one of the worst, if not the worst, team in the NBA this year.
