Charlotte's Raja Bell Ready to Make Season Debut Injured or Not
The Charlotte Bobcats shooting guard Raja Bell plans to return to the lineup and make his NBA season debut this week regardless of the status of his wrist injury. Last week Bell decided to put off surgery that would repair a partially torn ligament in his left wrist. Originally, the team thought that Bell would have to have the surgery and likely miss at least four months of the season as a result. However, Bell has opted to take his chances at playing through the pain in order to help his team which is in dire need of his services.
Whether or not Bell will be able to play effectively with the wrist injury remains to be seen, but no one could possibly be happier than the Charlotte franchise that he is willing to try. The 33 year old shooting guard averaged 13 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 42% from 3 point range in 45 games for the Bobcats last season after being acquired from the Phoenix Suns in December. He had an immediate impact on the team's success and coach Larry Brown hopes he can have the same influence in his return this season. Last season, the Bobcats fell from playoff contention when Bell was sidelined with a calf injury late in the season. Although he may be playing injured in his return, the betting odds of Bell making the Bobcats a better team by being back in the lineup are extremely high. Currently, the Bobcats are the worst offensive team in the league, but that is a sure bet to change with the presence of their shooting guard back on the court. If nothing else, it will add to the depth of the shooting guard position for Charlotte as the backup for Bell, Ronald Murray, has also been out with a stress reaction in his left shin.
