NBA's Knicks Lose Robinson To Ankle Injury

New York's Top Player Off The Bench Out At Least Two Weeks

The New York Knicks will likely lose the services of reserve guard Nate Robinson for at least the next two weeks due to an ankle injury. Robinson severely sprained his right ankle on Saturday night in an overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Robinson was out of uniform and still on crutches on Monday night before the game the Knicks played against New Orleans but was scheduled to have xrays later Monday evening in order to determine the exact severity of the injury, and the probable length of time it would take for him to return to action.

The loss of Robinson, especially for any extended period of time, will definitely have a negative impact on the teams ability to win games. Although Robinson has struggled somewhat in the early part of this season, he still remains one of the top players the Knicks have coming off of the bench. Robinson was averaging 8.7 points per game in his role as a reserve guard, and his absence will leave the Knicks short on depth of experienced talented players at the guard position. The Knicks will now be forced to use rookie guard Tony Douglas in his place. Douglas is a fine prospect and a sure bet to improve as the season goes on, however, he is not yet the caliber of player coming off the bench that Robinson is. The betting line odds of the Knicks being affected by Robinson's absence in the immediate future look pretty substantial and even far greater if his injury turns out to be more serious than originally anticipated.
