New Jersey Nets Forward Yi Out Indefinitely Due to Sprained Right Knee
The NBA's New Jersey Nets will lose the services of forward Yi Jianlian for an undetermined period of time because of a sprained ligament in his right knee. Yi was injured in Monday nights game at Charlotte when Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace fell and rolled into Yi's leg causing him to awkwardly fall to the floor. The incident resulted in Yi not being able to put any pressure on his right leg after he got up and left the the floor. Tests later revealed that Yi had suffered a sprained ligament in his right knee during the mishap. The team announced that Yi will begin rehabilitation immediately and so far there is no exact timetable for his scheduled return.
The 22 year old Yi played for China's Olympic team and was acquired by the Nets through a trade deal in 2008. They had also recently just picked up a fourth year option on Yi that would pay him an estimated $4million for his services. The nets had high hopes that Yi would be a sure bet to blossom into a premier player in the NBA in the very near future, and his absence will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the ability to develop his skills while he is recovering from the injury. As a result, the Nets who are already short on quality NBA players will be priced by the odds making sportsbooks as a true long shot to be able to remain a competitive team during his absence.
