Sacramento Forward Arrested On suspicion of Drunk Driving
The Sacramento Kings forward Andres Nocioni was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of drunk driving. The arrest occurred just hours after the Kings' 113-105 home loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. Sacramento police told the media that Nocioni was pulled over in downtown Sacramento at approximately 2 a.m. after an officer noticed his car weaving. Upon speaking with Nocioni, the officer noticed an alcohol odor coming from the vehicle and after conducting a field sobriety test Nocioni was determined to be driving under the influence. Nocioni was then taken to the Sacramento County jail and booked at 3:26 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence and then released later that day.
How the arrest pans out and exactly what affect it will have on the franchise remains to be seen as it is unclear what the ramifications of Nocioni's actions will be, and whether or not the punishment he receives will keep him out of action for any period of time in the future. Nocioni has already publicly apologized to his team, the coaches, the Kings' organization, its fans, and his family in a statement he made after his release on Thursday. President of basketball operations, Geoff Petrie, told the media that he would wait for the outcome of the court process and the NBA's decision regarding the incident before determining the fines or suspensions that the Kings might impose on Nocioni for his actions. Nocioni is averaging 9.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game so far this season so the Kings will definitely be hurt by his absence should it arise. The odds making sportsbooks already have very low expectations for success in Sacramento this season, and the loss of Nocioni can only add to the probability of their predictions becoming a harsh reality.
