Michael Jordan's Son Costs UCF Adidas Shoe Sponsorship
What has the world of college athletics come to when it allows any basketball player, let alone a freshman who has yet to play a single game for his team, dictate what he is willing or not willing to do without suffering the consequences of his actions? I am referring of course to the obvious travesty that is taking place at the University of Central Florida in regard to freshman guard Marcus Jordan's, son of hall of fame legend Michael Jordan, refusal to wear any other basketball shoe except the white Air Jordans that he claims have special family meaning to him. The University of Central Florida is currently under the final year of a five year contract that requires all athletes and coaches to wear the company's apparel and equipment. As a result of Jordan's actions, Adidas has chosen to end their relationship with the school and terminate any future sponsorships on their behalf which reportedly will end up costing the University an estimated $3 million dollars of athletic equipment support.
How can this be possible? How can the basketball program allow Jordan to selfishly cost the University a major sponsorship and $3 million in equipment and apparel without being punished for his actions? How can the University not step in and mandate the basketball program to reprimand Jordan? How can Michael Jordan himself not step in and force his son to do what is right? Who the hell does this kid think he is? I don't care who his father is, or was, or what he did for the NBA, the kid is a spoiled brat that hasn't even played a single game at the college level, and should at the very least be suspended, but in my opinion thrown off of the team. How can he be allowed to break the rules without suffering any consequences? What kind of message is the basketball program and the University sending by permitting this to go on any further simply because he is Michael Jordan's son. Well la di da and big freaking deal! Who gives a rat's ass who's son he is? Rules are in place for everyone without exception, and it's high time we as a society make that very clear. Whatever happened to the days when the coaches determined what the players could or could not do? Whatever happened to guys like John Wooden who literally kicked Bill Walton, arguably the greatest college basketball player of all time, off of the team for his refusal to get a haircut commensurate with team protocol. I'll tell you what happened; Walton got a haircut and begged Wooden for a second chance at being a member of HIS team. I think we all know how that decision turned out for Walton. It is time we return to doing what we know is right from wrong and show the prima donnas of the athletic world the door if they don't like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
