NCAA Clears Stephenson For Immediate Eligibility

Cincinnati Freshman Guard Lance Stephenson Granted Playing Status

The NCAA has cleared Cincinnati Bearcats guard Lance Stephenson to begin playing immediately according to CBS Sports.com. Head basketball coach Mike Cronin relayed the news to CBS on Thursday afternoon after being informed by NCAA officials on Stephenson's playing status. Coach Cronin wasted no time putting the good news into motion by bringing Stephenson off of the bench Thursday night in an exhibition game against Saginaw Valley State. Stephenson scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 18 minutes of action as the Bearcats glided to an easy 86-58 victory in the contest.

The news is great for Cincinnati as Stephenson is a sure bet to make great contributions to the Bearcats' program this season. The 6' 5" freshman guard was named as the Big East Preseason Newcomer of the year by CBS Sports.com, and his addition to Cincinnati's basketball team will very likely increase the betting line odds of the Bearcats being a legitimate contender for the Big East title this season. Stephenson will make his national television debut on November 23rd when the Bearcats face Vanderbilt in the Maui invitational.
