NBA's Kings' Martin Out For At Least Two Months

Sacramento's Star Guard Kevin Martin To Have Wrist Surgery

The Sacramento Kings announced Friday that starting guard and leading scorer Kevin Martin will likely be sidelined for a minimum of two months due to his decision go through with the surgery necessary to repair his injured wrist. Martin is scheduled to have the surgery on Monday to fix a non displaced hairline fracture of the navicular bone in his left wrist. The Kings also announced that they will replace Martin with Beno Udrih until such time that Martin has rehabilitated enough to return to the starting lineup.

The loss of Martin for any period of time whatsoever is a sure bet to hurt the Kings offensively as he is the team's leading scorer. The Kings had already been predicted by the odds making sportsbooks to be one of the worst teams in the NBA again this season after turning in the leagues worst record at 17-65 last season. The Kings had lost four of the first five games of the year with the services of Martin at their disposal despite his contribution of an average of 30.6 points per game. Although Beno Udrih is a descent backup guard, he is in no way capable of producing the kind of numbers that Martin can, and with Martin expected to be out of the lineup for a good two months, the betting odds of the Kings having any remote chance of being competitive during his absence are simply non existent. They just don't possess enough talent to be a threat to most NBA teams even with Martin, and they definitely don't have enough talented depth on the bench collectively to replace the scoring punch that he provides.
