The 2009 Masters Tournament Preview

Hot news

The legendary South African golfer Gary "the black knight" Player has announced that this years Masters will be his last at Augusta.

Player has won the event three-times and has played more Masters Tournaments (52) then any other golfer.

Player said, "I think I will cry. It will be a cry of appreciation and enjoyment" when asked how he will react walking up to his last 18th fairway at the Augusta National Golf Club.

Gary player is a magnificent golfer ranking number three in most career tournament wins. He is one of only five players to win the covenant "grand slam" of golf and has won the British Opens three times spanning over three decades. He will certainly be missed by the Masters faithful.

Defending Champion

Speaking of South Africans, Trevor Immelman will defend his 2008 Masters Championship this weekend. Ironically, it's was Gary Player who told Immelman after watching him practice in last years Masters, "you've got the best swing in the world. You've got to go out there and win this tournament this week." which he did. Immelman is the fist South African to win the Masters since Gary Player did it in 1978.

The Field

Immelman has his work cut out for him if he wants to wear the green jacket again.

96 of the most talented golfers from around the world will be gunning for a victory in Augusta.

The field includes past winner Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, this years hottest player Geoff Ogilvy, BetSportsWeb favorite Kenny Perry, Sean O'Hair, Sergio Garcia, Stuart Appleby and many more.

The Course

The beautiful Masters course is currently playing as a par 72 at 7,435 yards.

Capping the Masters

The field is always tough to gauge at the Masters. Looking for a dark horse like Zack Johnson in 2007 will be tough. However, we like Appleby, Goosen, Sabbatini and Cink to show up and give Woods, Mickelson and Harrington a run for the money. Also, look at Ogilvy who is just to hot to back off on.

Schedule

The historic Masters Tournament starts April 9th thought the 12th and is played at the Augusta National Golf Club, in Augusta, Ga.
