2009 NFL Mock Draft by BetSportsWeb

Every years draft is filled with anxiety and hope for players, organizations and fans. This years NFL draft will be no different as teams try to add new talent to their rosters.

  1. Detroit Lions - The Lions seem like a perennial 1st round pick which means they lose a lot. This team really needs to turn its losing ways around. After trading QB Jon Kitna to the Dallas Cowboys for CB Anthony Henry the Lions are in need of a franchise QB. We believe they will take Georgia QB Matthew Stafford. Stafford is a stud QB with all the talent in the world to build a team around.
  2. St. Louis Rams - The Rams will take Jason Smith with the second pick of the draft. After singing former Raven, Jason Brown at Center the Rams will finally get there O line dominating again. Great news for Steven Jackson fantasy numbers.
  3. Kansas City Chiefs - It's true Aaron Curry would be the logical pick here, and we think someone needs to protect Matt Cassel, but after getting rid of Allen Jared last year we like Brian Orakpo to make an immediate impact. KC couldn't get to the QB last year and Orakpo is a monster that can.
  4. Seattle Seahawks - Seattle singed TJ Houshmandzadeh because they were in serious need of healthy wide receivers. Most mock drafts place Michael Crabtree with the Hawks, but Aaron Curry falls to forth and they change there mind.
  5. Cleveland Browns - Missing out on Curry is going to be a bummer, but Malcolm Jenkins is a lock due to a seriously low Browns CB talent pool.
  6. Cincinnati Bengals - The Bengals lost Andrews to the Eagles and Houshmandzadeh to the Seahawks in free agency. The logical pick would be Michael Crabree at number 6 over Eugene Monroe. The Bengals pull an all nighters and realize you need protection to get the ball to your receivers. Eugene Monroe is the pick here.
  7. Oakland Raiders - Michael Crabtree falls in Davis's hand.
  8. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jacksonville is in serious need of help on both sides of the line. They will consider Missouri WR Jeremy Maclin, but will choose Jason Smith with a glaring need at tackle.
  9. Green Bay Packers - No chance Dom Capers passes on OLB Everette Brown and even less chance Jim Rome calls him "Chris".
  10. San Francisco 49'ers - Darrius Heyward-Bey "got game" and would be a great fit for San Fran, but instead they look to the future and pick USC's Mark Sanchez. Alex "who" Smith was a bust, but the future looks bright for Mike Singletary's team.
  11. Buffalo Bills - Pettigrew could become a pro-bowl TE who can actually block. The Bills need someone who can score and with his 6'6'' height and skills he fits the bill perfectly.
  12. Denver Broncos - The Broncos have been one of the busiest teams during this year's free agency. Look for them to take another shocker and pass on B.J. Raji instead taking Ole Miss DT Peria Jerry to fill the nose for Nolan.
  13. Washington Redskins - Offensive line is always a sore issue for the skins. Look for them to take talented OT Andre Smith regardless of his combine shenanigans.
  14. New Orleans Saints - The Saints resigned players Vima and Henderson to long term contracts last week. They also made a move on CB Jabari Greer to fill a much needed hole which makes us wonder the next move. Look for another shocker with the 14 pick going to RB Knowshon Moreno.
  15. Houston Texans - The Texans will look to pile up the passing yards with the addition of Jeremy Maclin out of Missouri.
  16. San Diego Chargers - Chargers have some holes to fill and everyone seems to think they take USC's LB Rey Maualuga. We think they will take a look at DE Aaron Maybin actually, but in the end take Rey Maualuga.
  17. New York Jets - The Jets are bummed they missed out on Jeremy Maclin since Coles moved on. Instead they get another gift by Maryland's WR Darrius Heyward-Bey who can get it done.
  18. Chicago Bears - The Bears focus on defense because they have to and take talented DE Aaron Maybin out of Penn State.
  19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - The Bucks made some moves during the free agency and need someone to help at LB like Brian Cushing but instead they get OT Michael Oher.
  20. Detroit Lions - Brian Cushing had some injury issues last year, but can play top level D for the team that takes him. The Lions get the USC playmaker at 20th.
  21. Philadelphia Eagles - Westbook is recovering from a "minor" knee injury and Buckhalter has gone from Green to Orange. One would think the need for speed out weighs the "O" line. With DE Tyson Jackson still the board Reid will be tempted, but worries he will miss on OT Eben Britton.
  22. Minnesota Vikings - Hakeem Nicks had a huge year for the Tar Heals and the Vikings are hoping for more of the same for them.
  23. New England Patriots - LB Mike Vrabel is out, DE Larry English is in. The undersized DE is under rated and will get converted to LB for the Pats.
  24. Atlanta Falcons - The Falcons need a TE in a big way, but with Pettigrew gone they get a steal picking up DE Tyson Jackson.
  25. Miami Dolphins - Bill Parcells's is the king of Miami and will need to build on his success with the first pick. Parcells understands the draft as well as anyone and see's B.J. Raji still on the board and grabs him to help Starks on the D line.
  26. Baltimore Ravens - The Ravens love athletic guys and they get another one with CB Vontae Davis to fill a big hole in the D backfield.
  27. Indianapolis Colts - Florida's WR Percy Harvin is a playmaker and will fill in nicely for the departed Harrison.
  28. Philadelphia Eagles - The Eagles would look at WR Kenny Britt and QB Josh Freeman, but instead will opt for Oregon's OG Max Unger.
  29. New York Giants - Plaxico Burress is coming back, but the Giants are going to lock up WR Kenny Britt for insurance.
  30. Tennessee Titans - Albert Haynesworth is sipping champagne with the Snyder's and Obama's in DC which leaves a very big hole. Evander Hood will be a valuable 30th pick for the Titans.
  31. Arizona Cardinals - The Cardinals have needs on D and O, but will take Chris "BEANIE" Wells to help get much needed rushing yards on the ground.
  32. Pittsburgh Steelers - The Steelers are in an enviable position with both the 2008 WAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Jarron Gilbert and three-time AP All-American LB James Laurinaitis on the board. The need seems to point to the DE, but the Steelers will pick the LB.
