2009 Preakness Preview-Can Mine That Horse Bring More Tears of Joy?

Last year's Triple Crown was both sensational and dramatic.

The talented Big Brown comes from behind to beat Eight Belles (RIP) to win the Kentucky Derby. Then Brown runs the 133rd Preakness Stakes to a victory before coming up short during the Belmont Stakes to the Annoyance of horse fans world wide.

Regardless of what you thoughts might be on Mine That Horse the gelding ran a fantastic race winning by 6 3/4th lengths in a upset victory for the 135th Kentucky Derby. Trainer Bennie 'Chip' Woolley has already announced Mine That Bird will run in Preakness Stakes providing great intrigue.

Speaking of intrigue it was Mine That Bird's dam Mining My Own whose sire Smart Strike shares the same sire as Curlin giving him a stellar bloodline.

In fact, the geldings' sir is Birdstone who upset Smarty Jones in the 2004 Belmont denying him the Triple Crown. Even more, the last Derby winner to skip the Preakness Stakes was the injured Grindstone Mine That Bird's grandsire in 1996.

Other horses set to compete are Hull, Churchill, Papa Clem, Derby third place finisher Musket Man, Delta Jackpot winner Big Dream, Trial &Winner, and D. Wayne Lukas's Flying Private.

It should be a fantastic race with only 10 days to go. Look for more horses like Fletcher's Take the Points, and Derby runner up Pioneer of the Nile to announce their intentions on running the 134th Preakness.

This years 134th Preakness Stakes now known as the "peoples race and peoples party" in Baltimore Maryland should still provide drama and as always a good time.

In fact, this year's infield party will get to rock out to ZZ Top and Buckcherry while party happy horse fans try figuring out which dark horse might win "The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans".
