Adelaide, Australia's Adam Scott will be defending his Byron Nelson Championship this weekend against an outstanding field in Irving, Texas.
Scott will need to muster up the golf gods of 2008 to grab a chance at a back to back Byron Nelson championship. The Aussie is having a poor year ranked 32nd world wide without a win in 2009. Scott did get close during the Sony Open this year tied for second, but really needs to put his game together to compete this weekend.
Golf capping should prove even more difficult then the PLAYERS Championship which saw Henrik Stenson take the win.
Don't look for Adam Scott to pull a Zack Johnson like last weeks Valero Texas Open. Scott has missed too many cuts in 2009 to be considered a contender.
Look at Phil Mickelson as the early favorite with Anthony Kim, Carl Pettersson, and Rory Sabbatini for possible top 10 slots.
Dark horse players to look at include Ken Duke, 2007 Nelson Champion Scott Verplank, and Ryuji Imada.
Sadly, Tiger Woods has once again skipped the Nelson Championship for the US Open which will be played at Bethpage next month.
The HP Byron Nelson Championship is once again being played at the beautiful TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas, Irving, Texas. Professional golfers will be playing for a share of the 6.5 million dollar purse being played May 21st - 24th.
The tournament is also well known for its charitable contributions that saw over 6 million going to charity in 2008. The Byron Nelson tournament is one of the longest running events on the PGA tour which is a tribute to a fantastic champion and a well respected man.
