St. Jude Classic Preview

The PGA continues to roll-on with the recent Memorial victory by tour favorite Tiger Woods at Muirfield Village in Dublin Ohio.

Next stop, the St. Jude Classic played at the beautiful TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

Phil Mickelson has already committed to playing this year's Classic along with many of the worlds best golfers vying for a share of the $5.6 million purse and 500 Fed Ex points.

Golfers such as Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Camilo Villegas, and tour enigma John Daly (sponsor exception) will headline a strong field this weekend in Memphis. Justin Leonard will also be on hand to defend his 2008 Stanford St. Jude Classic Championship against a solid field.

The St. Jude Classic is a well-respected PGA tour stop that has seen millions of charity dollars benefit children with cancer. In fact, CEO David L. McKee was stated saying on the official website, "Since St. Jude became the sole beneficiary of the Memphis PGA TOUR event in 1970, we have improved the survival rate of the most common form of childhood leukemia from less than 50 percent to 94 percent."

Past winners include Hal Sutton, Fred Couples, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Greg Norman.

Capping this year's Classic will be as difficult as any. Many players will be using this championship to tweak their game in preparation for the US Open while others are just looking to get a win before the big major. More over, the course is difficult, making accuracy a must to win, and a great challenge before the US Open at Bethpage, New York.

Front runners would include Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, and Padraig Harrington. In fact, Harrington, Garcia, and Villegas have all played well at the TPC Southwind.

Dark Horse players to look for include Retief Goosen, Robert Allenby, and Boo Weekley.

The St. Jude Classic will be played this week from June 8th to the 14th.
