Tiger Woods Will Miss 2008 Memorial Tournament

May 27, 2008

This year's Memorial Tournament will be played at the beautiful Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, and it should be a great one.

Last year's champion K.J. Choi will defend his title against a packed field that will not include Tiger Woods. Woods is currently rehabbing from an April surgery to his left knee and has not played since the Masters. However, Woods is set to play the 2008 U.S. Open in two weeks at Torrey Pines. The PGA has approved an increase in the amount of players (from 105 to 120) which should not only increase the talent pool, but also create a more challenging event.

The Muirfield Village GC was designed by Jack Nicklaus and completed in 1972. Nicklaus was noted saying he wanted a tournament more like The Masters which would challenge golfers from around the world. The course was dedicated on Memorial Day with an exhibition match between Tom Weiskopf and Jack Nicklaus in which Nicklaus won with a 6-under 66. The Memorial is currently played at 7,265 feet with 75 bunkers and water hazards on 11 holes. Golf Digest has selected the course as number 16th among "America's 100 Greatest Courses".
